In June of 2002 a beetle, the emerald Ash Borer, was
identified as the reason that thousands of Ash Trees in
southeast Michigan were dying. This pest is native to Asia and
arrived here in packaging materials. It bores into the wood of
Ash trees and tunnels inside the cambium layer of the tree.
This disrupts the flow of nutrients to the tree and kills the
tree in two or three years.
If you have Ash trees, you have a costly problem: treat the
tree indefinitely or replace the tree. In most cases the
long-term cost of treatment will be far more than the cost to
replace the trees right now.
